NEC WBB PLAYOFF PICTURE

Triple checked and confirmed by the NEC office on Sunday morning, here is a look at the 2013 NEC Women's Basketball seeding possibilities going into Monday night's regular season finale...

-Seven playoff spots and three seeds have already been clinched. Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, Monmouth, St. Francis, Mount St. Mary's, and St. Francis Brooklyn have already punched their ticket into the tournament, with Quinnipiac having already locked up the #1 seed, Sacred Heart set at #2, and St. Francis Brooklyn in at #7. We are already know Sacred Heart and St. Francis Brooklyn will match up in one of the four quarterfinal games next Sunday at the Pitt Center.

-Four out of the six games on Monday night will carry playoff implications: Mount/Monmouth, FDU/Wagner, Central/St. Francis, and Bryant/RMU.

-Quinnipiac has already clinched the #1 seed and home court throughout the tournament. They will play LIU Brooklyn on Monday night to try and set a NEC single season wins record with 27 victories and try to become the sixth team in the 27 years of NEC WBB history to finish a regular season undefeated. QU will host either Bryant, FDU, or Robert Morris at the TD Bank Sports Center next Sunday in the quarterfinals.

-Sacred Heart has clinched the #2 seed. They will host St. Francis Brooklyn in the quarterfinals.

-Monmouth can clinch the #3 seed with a win, not only clinching a first round tournament home game, but also ensuring that they would avoid QU in the semi-finals should they advance. Should MU lose, they would be the #4 seed with a SFU loss to Central or slip to the #5 seed with a SFU win. As far as possible playoff opponents go, Monmouth can play either Mount or Central Connecticut State.

-St. Francis can clinch a first round home game with a win. They would be the #3 seed with a win plus a Monmouth loss and would be the #4 with a win and a Monmouth win. The Red Flash could also finish fourth with a loss and a Monmouth win, but would slip to sixth with a loss and a Mount win. SFU will play either Mount or Central in the NEC Tournament.

-Mount St. Mary's can clinch a first round home game with a win. They would be #3 with a win and a SFU loss and be #4 with a win and a SFU win. If Mount loses, they would be #5 with a SFU win and #6 with a SFU loss.

-St. Francis Brooklyn has clinched the #7 seed and will play Sacred Heart in the quarterfinals.

-Bryant can clinch the 8th playoff spot and the #8 seed with a victory over Robert Morris. If they lose, they will be eliminated.

-Fairleigh Dickinson needs to win over Wagner and have Bryant lose to Robert Morris in order to clinch the #8 seed.

-Robert Morris clinches the #8 seed with a win over Bryant and a FDU loss to Wagner.

-Of course, for whoever clinches the 8th playoff spot, their 'prize' will be to travel to Hamden, CT for a quarterfinal date with the top seeded Quinnipiac Bobcats next Sunday. Only once in NEC men's or women's basketball tournament history has a #8 seed upset a #1, and it came six years ago when the 8th seeded St. Francis Brooklyn women's squad shocked their inter-borough rivals, the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds, in the 2007 Quarters.
